About us: Scottish Education

Scotland has an established education system, that is high quality, effective and focused.  Scottish Education has led the way with initiatives such as Assessment is for Learning, the Curriculum for Excellence and GLOW, the Scottish Schools Intranet project.

The quality of educational provision is monitored and evaluated using a comprehensive system of local and national checks.  Schools themselves are well versed in monitoring good practice, local governments employ Quality Improvement Officers who support and challenge schools, and Her Majesty's Inspectors of Education (HMIe) carry out objective reviews of education services at school and local government level using a set of published quality indicators.

World experts regularly recognise Scotland as one of the leaders in successful educational innovation, with the structures and leadership required to deliver an education service which will be effective in the 21st Century.  To deliver such an effective education service requires motivated professionals at all levels, for example:

  • inspiring teachers who keep up to date with the latest developments;
  • policy which encourages innovation and improvement;
  • leadership which supports, motivates and empowers staff.

The Education Expertise Exchange Network exists to provide access to expertise and to support educational experts to find ways of sharing their expertise.  While we expect most of our work to be in the education sector, we believe that the leadership skills which have been required to keep Scotland at the forefront of developments in education are applicable in a variety of contexts.  We are particularly interested in finding opportunities to share our experiences and expertise with colleagues form other areas who are seeking to build additional capacity in their own education systems.
